My son moved into a new house. And in the closet of this house were 2 handcarved wooden plaques. I guess you would call it a plaque.
Anyway, they are obviously of/about Germany. We know squat! lol So, I thought maybe you might know something about them, or if nothing else, tell me what it says.... ![]() He is hoping they are worth something, which I doubt they are, but I would still like to know about them, if possible... ![]() zoomed in on the bottom words of each one... ![]() ![]() now the entire thing, i couldnt zoom well enough... the detail is unreal. they are really pretty!!!! ![]() ![]()

I'm not sure on the value, but...
Berechtsgaden is a park and I know Hitler once was there. I think it played a role in the annexation of Czechoslovakia. Don't quote me on that. There's something there about WWII. I did some googling on Obergammergau, because again that sounded familiar. It's famous for it's wood carvings and the "passion play" which is what is on that carving ("Passionspieldorf" = Passion Play Village.) That play only happens every year that ends in a zero. Regardless, they're gorgeous ![]()

Those are really cool Mysty. Is there anything on the back? Like who carved them?

We have a few of those, purchased when we lived in Germany, USAF brat here.
We have Neuschwanstein Castle, which is what Cinderellas castle was fashioned after. They're not hugely valuable, about 50.00 I would guestimate. Sphinx is right, Berchestgaden, has a lot of Hitler history, the Eagles Nest, was a hideaway up in the mountains. There were US Armed Forces hotels in the area, one The General Walker, we stayed at was at the base of the mountain (torn down in 2000). Absolutely gorgeous is Lake Königssee, its a beautiful area with lots of history and skiing! LOL sorry reminiscing, its one place I would love to go back to as an adult. One thing about the passion play is that it is held every 10 years and the lead of the play is chosen at a very young age to play Mary and must be a virgin and under the age of 15. The kid is chosen when they are 3 or 4 most of the time. No pressure kid.
Quite nice. Berchetsgaden is also where the Nazis presented to Hitler a 1 Million DM present to enhance the park and its beauty so Hitler could admire during WWII. |
