Okay...I love me some Oscar season!

Let's start with the non-colour people and no women debate going on...I hate that it is even being talked about. I more so question the people bringing it up because the Academy is about honouring talent, not race or gender. Entertainment Weekly for example, stated they were upset that the Academy didn't take the chance to nominate a black woman for best director (Selma) because it would have been a first...Aside from the lead actor/actress and director from Selma, there was not a ton of amazing performances from coloured people to warrant such a debate.

That said...The snubbing of Selma, aside from Picture and Song is kind of interesting. 99% fresh rating on RT.com and universal praise...it's odd to not see it on this list more. My theory on this is that voters didn't want to feel obligated to vote for an important black film again like they did last year with 12 Years A Slave. Race was such a point of interest going into last years ceremony as well. Sigh.

For me personally...I only feel like two films got snubbed. Firstly, The Lego Movie not getting nominated for Best Animated Feature is beyond insane! I mean, the Boxtrolls?! Really?! The Lego Movie was smart, fast, well written and just overall something totally fresh! How it failed to meet the requirements to get a nomination is beyond me. If Big Hero 6 doesn't win, I'm calling foul! Secondly, I felt that Snowpiercer should have been shown SOME love! Tilda for Best Supporting Actress? Best original screenplay? Art direction? Helllllooooooooooo!!!

I'm happy that GBH got tons of love! Didn't see that coming!
Boyhood has got to be the obvious front runner for Best Picture yeah?
Why does the Academy hate Lana Del Ray so much? This should have been her second year in a row as an Oscar nominated song writer. (Great Gastby and Big Eyes)

Overall....most of the race seems to be locked up already. Could see a few shocks here or there. Based on the nominated films, it's going to be hard to provide an entertaining show. Lol

I was going to talk about this too. I hate that people always claim racism or sexism. There's way too much of both in the world but not every time a woman or a person of color doesn't have something good happen to them it doesn't mean there is some conspiracy. White Jennifer Anniston is beloved and she didn't get nominated either. Clint Eastwood didn't get nominated. Ben Affleck, the very definition of a successful white guy, didn't get nominated for Argo even though many though he would win. Plus, Denzel Washington won twice. Jennifer Hudson won and she wasn't even an actress. The woman from 12 Years a Slave won last year. Slumdog Millionaire was one of the most surprising feel good films ever. There are many more examples but you get the point. Many white people get screwed and many people of color and women win.
