Wow, can't believe it's been so long since I've updated!! But then again... that little boy keeps ups busy & on our toes pretty much 24/7!!

Things have been going good, kinda of a struggle at times adjusting the the $600 daycare bill each month, but we are making do, barely at times. I've tried every avenue I can to get some financial assistance for CJ but it's just not gonna happen, I get kinda down at times because the foster home he was in before got foster care payments... but since we are relatives & the case is in Siskouyou County jurisdiction, they don't pay relatives unless he's federally funded and the California judge ruled the CJ didn't meet the deprivation requirement when he was removed from his parents custody. It sometimes feels like if I would have let him stay in California, he'd have a better life... and that hurts to think about. It's just frustrating that if this would have originated in Oregon, or if we weren't related, we'd the the little bit of extra help that could make a huge difference! We're not talking about a lot of money, but $300-$400 would pay for at least half of his daycare. But I'll quit bitching about that... lol

As of Monday, July 14th, Levi & his gf's parental rights were terminated. The day CJ got up here to Oregon, I got a VM from Levi saying he was back in Oregon... he didn't know CJ was here or going to be here so soon. Anyway, they could have no contact with CJ so we never seen Levi or Hope while they were here. They went back down to Cali the day after the court day for their parental rights. During their time in Oregon, Levi went to jail several times for his old charges, and some new meth charges, but of course the meth wasn't his!!! He was covering for his gf, whatever! They finally sentenced him to 60 days, and he was lucky enough to get on a work crew where he had to be at the jail at 8am, they did grounds maintenance & such until around noon, then they were free to go do what they wanted until the next day. He lasted 2 days, and now has an escape charge added to his record.

Good news is, we can now move forward with the adoption!! Yippee!!

CJ is a lot of fun... we are always out & about doing things and staying busy! He's a very smart little man so his potential is endless!

Money definitely is one of the struggles, but it can't buy everything, like the love of a grandparent. There is absolutely no way he would have been better off anywhere but with you.

As usual I am a little late finding threads like this.

Your decision to take CJ really is a no brainer and glad you accepted the challenge as it will make your life fuller everyday.

On a side note, I coach baseball and have had three kids on my team who were raised by their grand parents. I can tell you that the kids had great support networks and given the love and care that their parents couldn't provide.

In June, one kid that I have coached several times over the past 7 years moved to Nebraska to be with his parents who moved there last year. His grand parents did everything to ensure that Josh had a normal life and was given the opportunity to achieve his goals. His parents were drug addicts and homeless several times. Somehow the found the strength to get clean, back together and rebuild their life so they could get their children back. Different situation than yours but the grandparents had custody but gave it back to the parents in June as the parents got better.

It can happen with your son too but Josh is now 14 and went through 14 years of the same stuff and he is a good mostly well adjusted kid because the grandparents stepped up and made sure he was taken care of properly along with his sister of 16.

Great job with taking on the responsibility and good luck as you will be resourceful and find a way to make the expense not so inhibiting.

I am just upset that you can not get any type of financial assistance, but glad he is thriving in your care, I had no doubt he would
