Default Homeless Man may be new singing sensation

Ted Williams' smooth voice may not earn him a Susan Boyle-sized record contract, but it has made him a quicker rising Internet sensation than the frumpy British singer, according to at least one popular search engine.
Once his name began to surface, it spiked initially 20 times higher than Boyle's did on Yahoo!.
On Google, trends show that Boyle spiked to the highest level they measure within a day of her debut on the search engine but quickly dropped off within a month to virtually forgotten.
That's a common trend, a spokesperson for Yahoo! pointed out. The initial spike, though, often proves alarming for the quickshots to fame.

The massive media coverage that overtook Boyle's life eventually forced the 48-year-old into isolation.
"There were a lot of press people outside my door, a lot of television people, a lot of people who wanted a piece of me," she told London's Daily Mail six months after her YouTube clip was first uploaded. "It got to the stage where I couldn't even go outside because the media American television crews, too surrounded the house."
Williams also has been overwhelmed by the coverage perhaps for many of the same reasons.
"There's no way in the world that I could have ever imagined that I would be -I mean, just have all of this just all of a sudden come into this portion of my life," he said on CBS' "Early Show."
Like Boyle, many seem to identify with Williams, according to search metrics.
According to Yahoo!, 56% of people who searched for Williams are men (note: Ted Williams is also the name of a famous baseball player but the late sports star hasn't been in the news much recently and is unlikely to have affected the search). Perhaps more shocking as of this afternoon, 94% of Yahoo! users searching for Williams, according to Yahoo's algorithms, earn less than $50,000 a year.
On Google, the number of times the former radio deejay's name has been searched has stayed on a par with many of the biggest news stories of the day, including the new White House chief of staff, a Boston sports columnist who announced he was gay and more.
An AOL spokesperson said on its search database that "Ted Williams" was one of the top five search terms of the week, and according to Digg.com data, it was the top digg-ed story of Wednesday.
Whether or not that will end up in a happy ending for Williams isn't known but a Yahoo! spokesperson pointed out that in a couple of months, someone will do a followup story and we'll all start searching again.
For now, Williams, who had recently been living in a tent in Columbus, Ohio, seems to be hoping for the best before the YouTube clicks which have reached the millions taper off.
"Outrageous. Outrageous. It's just phenomenal," he said on the "Today Show" when asked what the whirlwind 48 hours have been like for him. "There's no way in the world that I could ever imagine that I would be [here]."

This has been everywhere the past week. Good for him. I hope he stays clean. He's not a singer, though. He's an announcer.

Hope it's not too much too fast for someone with his history of drug use. I've seen it happen first had, but I won't be cynical here. Good for him - he got himself clean and has gotten multiple job offers! Hope his good luck continues!

Wow, he's getting a TON of offers. And that's good, Myst. Glad he's working with someone to make sure a relapse doesn't happen. Cool
