"Detroit Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said the incident violated city ordinance 38-5-4, which prohibits throwing objects on the playing area during sporting events."

Ok, so if it's a city issue, why do "gentlemen with NHL badges" have to be the ones to enforce the rules? Let Detroit officials take care of it. My biggest issue, aside from interfering in a tradition that began more than 50 years ago, is Bettman's high and mighty approach to all of a sudden decide, on the spot, that its time to make city officials enforce the rule. You and I both know that if this did involve his prized organization (without naming names) we wouldn't be discussing this.

And if that rule was magically going to be enforced, inform the venue staff so he wouldn't be allowed through to do what 5 other people were previously given a free pass to do.

These games tonight are INSANE. Although this SJ/LA game is much better than Chicago's decimation of Vancouver tonight.

Wingz- What really sucks is that ever since the lockout of '05, I can't get many hockey games to air in my area. I got to watch game 2 of the wings/coyotes, but since versus carries most of the games, I'm pretty much screwed. I was hopeful that ESPN would get the airing rights back, but NBC and versus get it for another 10 years. DAMN!!!

I can't justify it to the household commander to spend another $30 per month just to get versus.

It was good to see vancouver lose. That's just one more game of energy they have to spend before getting to the wings. As for Bettman, I hate him too.

Well, that 10 year deal could actually not be a horrible decision ... if A) The name change Versus will undergo to include NBC makes them more well known, B) If NBC Sports Group shops Versus around to more providers so it's not a rarity to get that channel in your lineup, and C) The league starts promoting the shit out of the sport (and in doing so, fires Gary Bettman), especially with the news on the NFL & NBA re: lockouts ... If the NHL plays this right, it COULD bring the sport back to the forefront a little bit more.

You're dreaming. It's always going to be old time hockey. The Canadians will see to it that the league remains the redheaded stepchild of sports.

That's why I had a list of things that needed to be accomplished beforehand. Only in an ideal world...

In other news, first team to move on, only team to snag a sweep during Round 1 - My Detroiters! Great Game 4, looking forward to a good rest of the first round. So far, these playoffs have not been disappointing! Now if only Stevie Y and his Lightning can pull a miracle against the Penguins!

Let's be honest, the Penguins had more points than the Wings this year and that was without two superstars, including the best player in the world. If the Pens had their full team, they would have destroyed everybody this year. So you better win it this year because it's probably your last chance.

I guess the whining is infectious.

And a whopping two more points? That's hardly anything to get excited about.
